Letter to DfT on Maidstone to Cannon St service

Letter to DfT on Maidstone to Cannon St service sent today.

Dear Mr Mole,

I am appalled that despite local user opposition and MP complaints, the Maidstone to Cannon Street service has now been cancelled.

It is especially galling considering that leaders are currently meeting in Copenhagen to find a way to address climate change. If the government were serious about reducing CO2 emissions then it would not be reducing public transport.

People in Maidstone are now having to drive 15 miles to either Ebbsfleet or Paddock Wood in order to catch a train that delivers them to the Eastern side of London as the Medway Valley line adds too much inconvenience and time to the journey. Routes that involve changing are simply no substitute for the direct service.

Please reinstate this service.

Yours sincerely

Stuart Jeffery
Green Party Parliamentary Candidate for Maidstone and the Weald
