Can someone please explain to me what right an unelected bunch of cronies have to block anything to do with democracy? It is bad enough that the MPs in government who were voted in by just 29% of the electorate get to propose a new voting system which is not a huge improvement on First Past the Post, but the Lords really have no mandate for opposing anything that affects the process of democracy.
It is particularly shameful that the Lords are lobbing spanner after spanner in the AV Bill. They want 40% turnout for the referendum to be valid and they are opposing boundary changes. This, of course is all smoke and mirrors to prevent and progress towards a democratic mandate. Why doesn't that surprise me?
