Poverty in Kent

The Kent Messenger have produced a useful map of whether the relative levels of poverty in Kent are rising or falling. Suffice to say that East Kent has increasing relative poverty levels and West Kent is decreasing.

The data is available here, and a quick browse through it shows just how rich the South East is. Maidstone has stark gap between the most deprived areas and the least deprived. One patch of Bearsted is the 25th least deprived in the country (out of 32,000 and  therefore in the top 0.1%) and one patch in Parkwood/Senacre (I think) is the 606th most deprived and in the bottom 2%.

These areas are about a mile apart physically and a million miles apart in deprivation.
