Labour confused in Brighton

The Greens in Brighton were the first to announce a council tax rise for next year. While increasing taxes are never going to popular at a personal level, they did this to minimise the damage to public services being wreaked by the Tory / Lib Dem coalition.

Labour look like following suit in Darlington, Redcar & Cleveland and Stockton-on-Tees and other councils are considering this move too. It seems that they are beginning to see through the ConDem scam offer from Westminster.

Bizarrely then it now seems that Brighton Labour are preparing to get into bed with the Tories to oppose the budget. Even the suggestion that Labour could join forces with the Tories should secure Brighton as a Green stronghold for many years, but then we have always maintained that you can get a cigarette paper between Labour, Lib Dems and the Tories.
