Loadsa money in the South East

The interesting named Wealth in Great Britain Wave 2 , Wealth of the Wealthiest, 2008-10 is out today from the ONS. Their headlines are:
  • The wealthiest tenth of households owned more than 40% of overall wealth and were over 850 times wealthier than the least wealthy tenth of households
  • A household required total wealth greater than £967,000 to belong to the wealthiest 10% of the distribution
  • The south-east of England had the highest percentage of ‘wealthy’ households
Yes, you read that right, the top 10% have 850 times more wealth that the bottom 10%. Even the entire bottom half only have about the same as the top 10%.

The Equality Trust have said lots on the benefits of a more equal society. No sign of one here though.
