What Kent needs is not another large airport at its farthest corner, we already have one international airport at Manston that is desperate to grow and Lydd has been on that same growth drum for many years but now seems to have won, sadly.
Greens were campaigning hard to stop the expansion, as well as many others across the country. We are the only party consistently opposing airport expansion. The impact on climate change from air travel is disproportionately large - the number of flights needs to reduce not increase. Climate change is reaching its tipping point towards catastrophe.
Keith Taylor, the Green Party’s MEP for the South-east England, said: “It’s hugely disappointing that the Government has given the green light for this damaging expansion. The large number of people that requested a public inquiry into the expansion of Lydd Airport shows that there are huge concerns about the impact these proposals would have in terms of the increase in pollution for local residents and the threat to important wildlife.”
