Iraqi deaths - public perception

While I'm often shocked at public perception due to a twisted mainstream media (Mail / Sun etc), this poll out today from ComRes is frankly worrying in that it found that almost half of all people thought that in answer to "How many Iraqis, both combatants and civilians, do you think have died as a consequence of the war that began in Iraq in 2003?" was less than 5000. Just 16% suggested that it was over 100,000. Wikipedia has a range of sources mostly falling in the 100,000 to 200,000 range, and given the high profile of the Lancet study at 600k I find it amazing to think that people feel less than 5000 died.

Perhaps this also feeds the thinking by some who don't realise that the country is more likely to be targeted by terrorists due to our actions in foreign countries.
