Overlapping ideologies and the urgent need for proportional representation

Congratulations to Helen Grant for winning the election in Maidstone and the Weald.

I want to thank the 888 people who voted Green in Maidstone and the Weald yesterday. I will make sure that your voice is heard and I continue to champion our Green politics at every opportunity.

I would also like to say to the 46,000 people (62% of the electorate) who didn't vote Tory, including me, that we are now represented by an MP that we did not vote for and who probably doesn't represent our views. This is yet another travesty of our broken democracy and I will put proportional representation at the forefront of my campaigning for the next 5 years so that the 62% in Maidstone can have an elected voice in the future.

I am also sick to death of the 'Greens and Labour can't win here' that has been trotted out religiously by the Lib Dems. I understand why they do it but it just panders to the undemocractic system that we live in. Proportional representation would make that statement obsolete.

Finally, during Helen Grant's speech at the count, she suggested that all the candidates had "overlapping ideologies". I want to point out formally that I can't think of any overlap between my ideologies and hers.
