Belated budget thoughts

I've found it difficult to put fingers to keyboard following the budget, as the sight of the Conservative MP for Sheffield Hallam sitting beside George Osborne during his budget speech was simply too much.

The regressive budget announced on Tuesday will see millions hitting the dole queues, see poverty soar and see education curtailled. The unions said that it is a war on the public sector.

Those public sector fat cats, with their multi-million pound offshore tax havens, who do nothing to support the ordinary person in the street, eh?

I am also sure that the poorer people in society can afford the 2.5% increase in VAT. It certainly won't be noticed in the Cleggeron households, so why should it hurt someone on £97.65 per week, such as a single pensioner?

And a £250 rise for someone earning £21k. That's generous! A 1.1% rise, well a pay cut once you take inflation into account. They should count themselves lucky they have a job - oh yes - they won't have one soon.

Caroline Lucas MP is on Questio Time tonight. A voice of sanity in a world of madness.
