#showlove #blacklivesmatter

Please stand with our black friends in Maidstone today.

There is a lot of energy in the world right now.

On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, an African-American father and brother from Minnesota, was stopped by his old colleague Officer Derek Chauvin and Officer Tou Thao. Chauvin handcuffed Floyd, forced him face down on a city street and kept his knee on the right side of Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds killing him in broad daylight. Officer Tou Thao looked on passively and prevented intervention by an onlooker as he stood nearby.

If you understand the impact of Officer Thao looking on passively then you understand why we, the people of Kent, cannot look on passively.

So we call all Kent residents and only Kent residents to #showlove, show support, and show unity right here from Maidstone, Kent. So at 11am on Saturday we are holding a peaceful stand-in, keeping 2m between each person. We will meet at the main entrance of Mote Park to have our brief and then walk into the town centre where the real stand-in will take place,

This is your chance to use the safety of our community to show that you care even if you can’t understand the experience. Show yourself to be true and stand with us against police brutality.

If you are tired of seeing the innocent slaughtered by police officers you should stand with us. If you stand for human equality you should stand with us. If you posted a black square and hash tagged #blackouttuesday you should stand with us.

You said it yourself: Black lives matter, so let’s make them matter.
